Somewhere in Cyberland a rumor started that a 3-day tuna diet came from a "famous hospital". The rumor that surrounds the diet is just that, rumor. It bears no resemblance to any reality. The 3-day tuna diet is another fad diet that has an eating regimen you follow closely. While there is weight loss while on the diet , it is primarily from calorie restriction rather than some magical combination of food.
The diet has three days of meals with specific foods for each day. Condiments such as soy, mustard and ketchup are part of the basic diet . Each morning the dieter starts with coffee or tea that contain 1-2 packets of artificial sweetener. If you're a black coffee drinker, you probably can omit the sweetener. Breakfast for the first day offers ½ grapefruit or grapefruit juice and a piece of toast with peanut butter. The breakfast for the second day lets you eat an egg, toast and ½ banana. The third day you wake up to 5 saltine crackers, an ounce of cheese and an apple.
Lunch on the 3-day tuna diet consists of ½ cup of tuna, 1 piece of toast and more coffee or tea with sweet and low. Day 2 you get a cup of cottage cheese or tuna and eight saltines. By day three you cut the tuna and replace it with an egg, a piece of toast and more coffee.
Dinner for day one includes 3 ounces of meat or poultry, 1 cup of carrots, 1 cup of green beans, an apple and 1 cup of regular vanilla ice cream. You get two beef hot dogs (no bun), 1 cup of cabbage or broccoli, just ½ cup of carrots, ½ banana and ½ cup of plain vanilla ice cream. For day three more tuna for supper, 1 full cup, 1 cup of carrots, 1 cup of cauliflower, 1 cup of melon and of course ½ cup of ice cream.
Reading the diet didn't make me wince, although it does sound a great deal like someone threw the ingredients together and varied them so they sounded somehow magical. Then I heard about the other stipulation of the diet . When you use the 3-day tuna diet , you must drink 4 glasses of water or diet soda per day. Diet soda! What ? Substituting diet soda for water is ridiculous and incredibly unhealthy. Everyone needs to drink water every day! It cleanses the system and provides rehydration.
Proponents of the 3-day tuna diet claim you lose 10 pounds with the diet . This low calorie crash diet might give the loss, but only as water weight and not if diet soda replaces water. It is short term and not meant to be a lifestyle change but does contain many healthy foods. The creator liked ice cream because it shows up as often as tuna.
